Revelations

Daphne Guinness
Daphne’s third album, ‘Revelations’, was recorded at Les Studios Saint Germain, Paris - working once again with producer Tony Visconti, also at the helm for Guinness’ previously two critically acclaimed albums, ‘Optimist In Black’ and ‘Daphne & The Golden Chord’. Released in 2020 via Agent Anonyme Recordings, the album brought together a band featuring co-writer Malcolm Doherty, Terry Miles of Go-Kart Mozart, Roger Manning Jr (Air, Beck) and Rod Melvin (Brian Eno).

As hinted by the illusory lead single & title track ‘Revelations’ - couched in Visconti’s lush orchestrations, and for which Daphne cited both Gainsbourg’s ‘L’Histoire de Melody Nelson’ & J.S. Bach as inspirations - the album explores a French-flavoured disco sound to capture the nonchalant grooves of mid 70’s Gainsbourg with the dance floor decadenceof ZE Records.

The video to the subsequent single release ‘Heaven’, created by Daphne with another of her long-term collaborators, David LaChapelle, for a series of three interconnected art films secured a nomination at 2020’s Berlin Music Video Awards.

Mojo Magazine declared ‘Revelations’, “a genuinely engaging spectacle”, whilst Clash Magazine described it as “a spectacular return’ and The Times as, "Serge Gainsbourg meets Donna Summer, wrapped up in lush orchestration”.
